Many of our guests that come to stay at Sorrel House do so to escape for a few days and truly relax in their home from home in the beautiful English countryside amongst good friends and family. However, if you do feel the need to venture out then there are many lovely things to do and amazing places to visit depending on your interests.
Shrewsbury
The beautiful historic town of Shrewsbury is situated just 6 miles away. You can even catch the local train, a 15 minute walk away at Yorton station and be there in 12 minutes, alternatively the drive is around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Shrewsbury prides itself on its independents, shops and restaurants alike so don’t miss the opportunity to spend some time exploring the town and surrounding areas. We are happy to help with recommendations of places to relax, eat and drink in the town.
Day Trip
Ironbridge
Ludlow
Chester
We are situated a 25 minute drive from Ludlow, Ironbridge and Attingham park. The historic Roman walled city of Chester is about a 45 minute up the A41 for a good day trip! These are just a few things we recommend you absolutely must do whilst staying in the area.
Outdoors
Rock climbing & bouldering
Sitting adjacent to Grinshill, Corbett Wood is a mixture of a woodland and quarrying site. This area was quarried for centuries and the rock hauled was used in the creation of local churches and bridges including the English and Welsh Bridges in Shrewsbury. The climbing is scattered throughout the woods and hillside in the area.
Wild Swimming
At Alderford lake just outside Whitchurch the water quality is very good and they attract all types of swimmers – from those trying wild swimming for the first time to triathletes. You can swim between the cafe opening hours, seven days a week, all year round. (alderford.com/lake-users)
Narrow boat ride
Head to Norbury narrow boat marina in Staffordshire to enjoy a day out on the Shropshire Union Canal.
